Science Follow-up Activity

This week we continued our unit about how water shapes the earth’s surface. Our second lesson was called, “Why is there sand at the beach?” We learned how rivers can be powerful enough to carry rocks and slam them into each other, breaking them into smaller and smaller pieces along the way.

Here’s something you can do to encourage your child’s curiosity: If you ever visit an ocean beach, look for a nearby river that empties into the sea. This is likely the source of the sand. Pick up some of the sand and look at it up close. Can you see the tiny rocks? What color are they? Ask your child to imagine and describe what color the rocks were before they got worn down to being so tiny.

Check out http://sandgrains.com/sand-grains-gallery.html  for some amazing magnified sand shots!

School Song:

Our School’s a Stereo
(to the tune of Stereo Heart by Gym Class Heros)

Our school’s a stereo
That sings for you so listen close
Hear our thoughts in every note
Oh oh
This song we sing for you
For all the loving things you do
Teaching and guiding your students too
This song, we sing for you

Clap Clap Clap

(rap)
If you feel  rusty and you just can’t motivate
Like nobody ever shows that they appreciate
Know that we see that you’re trying and we see your heart
That you’ve been right there for us from the very start
On those days that are so hard and you can’t go on
And you feel like there’s nowhere where you  belong
Rea-, rea- , rea-lize that we love you so
And we hope deep-down inside that you really know

(sing)
We just really want you all to really to understand
That we know that education is your plan

(rap)
We recognize all the hard work that you do
And on behalf of REACH know that we love you!

Our school’s a stereo
That sings for you so listen close
Hear our thoughts in every note
Oh oh
This song we sing for you
For all the loving things you do
Teaching and guiding your students, too
This song, we sing for you

Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh

This song we sing for you

Clap clap clap

(rap)
When you have a bad day with your worst class
And you’re asking yourself if you could really last
Just remember that we love you and we have your back
You’re a hero and our hearts saying that’s a fact
And when you’re in your class and you feel all alone
And all your kids want to do is complain and moan
We know that even though they won’t ever show it
Your students love you even when-they mess up and blow it
(sing)
We just really want you all to really to understand
That we know that education is your plan

(rap)
We recognize all the hard work that you do
And on behalf of REACH know that we love you!

(sing)
Our school’s a stereo
That sings for you so listen close
Hear our thoughts in every note

Oh ho

This song we sing for you
For all the loving things you do
Teaching and guiding your students too
This song, we sing for you

Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh

This song we sing for you

It is our hope that in our school you will find
You gotta find it!
Passion and love to help you excite your mind
Excite your mind!
I’ll take your hand and hold it closer to mine

Yeah

Working together come on and shout
“Put em up, put em up!”

Our school’s a stereo
It sings for you so listen close
hear our thoughts in every note

Oh oh

This song we sing for you
For all the loving things you do
Teaching and guiding your students too
This song we sing for you

Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh

This song we sing for you.

Dear Parents and Families,

Our Spaghetti Party to celebrate the work we have been doing with multiplication and Marilyn Burns’s book, Spaghetti and Meatballs for All, is this Wednesday, February 1st at 11:15.

Thank you to those who have signed up for items! If you signed up to bring an item, please send it in by 1/1 no later than 11:00.

Plastic Silverware: Sal

Napkins/Plates: Noah

Baby wipes: Abby/ Izzy

Bottled Water: Ethan V.

Garlic Bread: Autumn

The total cost of the spaghetti and meatballs for the entire class is $100. We were able to get a lower cost and divide it among more parents by ordering through one vender, rather than having only 2 parents bring in spaghetti and meatballs. This will take the place of lunch on Wednesday, so you will not have to pay for two lunches. If you wish to send an additional lunch with your child, that is fine also. If you would like to contribute toward the cost of the meal, I will be accepting donations toward the $100 meal cost. If you are bringing an item, please do not feel you also have to contribute toward the food cost.

Thank you for all you do! The class is very excited for the party! As always, all parents/family are welcome to join- we just won’t be able to feed you this time! :(

Kind regards,

Violet
