Practice at home!
Our New Pledge Routine:
7:42a.m Speaker calls “Hey Reach!”
Students respond “Hey what?”
Speaker: “Are you ready?!”
Students: “For what?”
Speaker: “To learn!”
Immediately students will begin singing/chanting/rapping to DJ
Khaled “All I do is Win” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=LdE3WlQ__GY)
“All I do is learn learn learn no matter what!
I’ve got learning on my mind and I can never get
enough.
And every time I step into the classroom,
Everybody’s hands go up!
And they stay there, and they stay there
Never down never down never down
Cause all I do is learn learn learn
Now put your hands in the air and make em stay
there!”
Right after the students finish, they should be in an RTHalls line
frozen with hands in the air
Speaker: “Ready begin”
Students: place right hand over heart and begin pledge”
Teachers walk classes into class
The week of 9/26 teachers will practice with their students. We will do it the first time beginning Monday, October 3rd.

STAR Scores
Dear Parents and Families,
On Friday I sent home your students' STAR reading and math scores from their September tests. I sent the scores for this same test home several weeks ago, HOWEVER they may look different this time around. When I sent scores the first time, there was a glitch in our system regarding how the scores were normed. The scores sent home Friday are referenced with CAASPP norms (California State Standards). If your student appeared to be in green and is now in blue, this could explain the change. There was no new testing, this is simply the accurate measure of where you students is after leaving first grade and my starting point for teaching in second grade. Please also note STAR scores sent home at the end of first grade were not CAASPP normed.
Your kids are in GREAT shape, and I look forward to using this data to target their needs and get 100% at or above grade level!
Kind regards,
Violet

A Letter to Parents from Mrs. Votruba:
Dear Second Grade Parents,
My name is Emily Votruba and I am Natalia's mom. Ms. Smith has a really great set of AR books for our kids to read during class, and I'd like to help her make it much bigger so that our kids can have access to lots of interesting books to choose from at school. One of the things that charter schools do not generally have is a school library, so teachers have to rely on their own classroom libraries. Would any of you be willing to donate some books that your kids have finished reading or do not want anymore? I can label and sort all of the donated books to make a great library for kids to borrow books from in Mrs. Smith's class.
Also, if you are looking to buy books for your child or for the classroom, I have found that Savers thrift store has a really good selection that is organized well for a really low price. Additionally, any time you order scholastic, you can earn money for Mrs. Smith to buy books for her classroom.
Thank you so much for your help!
